'07 Conference Profile

The 2007 Pennsylvania Parking Association Conference took place in Harrisburg, PA from September 19 – 21. Conference activities began Wednesday morning at the Dauphin Highlands Golf Course. The annual Fender Bender Open was once again a great opportunity for attendees to reconnect and participate in a little competitive fun before the official start of the conference.
At the 7th annual Parking Design and Innovation Awards Banquet and Dinner, Harrisburg’s own mayor of 25 years, the Honorable Mayor Stephen Reed, delivered the evening’s keynote speech. The Mayor gave an informative and encouraging address regarding the critical role parking has played over the years in the revitalization of the City of Harrisburg.
Thursday morning, Dave Monroe of Carl Walker Construction presented on the subject of Design Build vs. Construction Management. This was followed by an impromptu discussion session led by International Parking Institute’s Past-President Kim Jackson, as well as experienced parking professionals Doug Holmes and Linda Kauffman. One last session before lunch was presented by Linda Kauffman on the subject of “Credit Card Process, Security, Payment Options, and Risk: Untangling the Mess”.
After lunch, Duke Hanson of Duncan Solutions, Inc. presented on the topic “Electronic Payment Systems – Where We Are and Where We’re Headed.” Attendees were then treated to a tour of the Harrisburg Civil War Museum, courtesy of the Harrisburg Parking Authority. The day concluded with another period of exhibition time and a cocktail reception.
Friday morning, Timothy Haahs & Associates, Inc. spoke on “Planning & Designing for Mixed-Use Parking Solutions.” The conference concluded with a presentation by Doug Holmes on the parking situation on today’s college and university campuses.
Special thanks to all of the sponsors, exhibitors, and vendors who together helped make this year’s conference another success.
